Stung by Rahul Gandhi's scathing attack on Uttar Pradesh government today, ruling BSP termed the Congress leader's speech during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations as "misleading" and his programme as a "flop show".

"It was a massive crowd of some one lakh in the BSP programme as compared to only 10,000 in the Congress rally nearby.

It has unnerved Congress 'yuvraj' following which he did not even take the name of Ambedkar with due respect and this is most deplorable," party state unit president Swami Prasad Maurya alleged in a statement.

Flagging off the 'Chetna' (awareness) Yatra here to mark 125 years of Congress party's establishment, Rahul said, "The BSP government was turning its back on pro-poor schemes and still claims to be a pro-poor government. How can this be possible?"

The BSP leader said on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, the Congress leader had nothing to say on the Dalit icon's contribution and this was reflective of his party's casteist mentality.

On Rahul's assertions that the days of politics of caste and religion were over, Maurya said it was the Congress which had initiated it for its ulterior motives and it is the BSP which has brought an end to politics of religion.

Blaming the Congress for imbalance in development, Maurya asked Rahul to look at the problems of poverty and unemployment in the country and not just in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier Rahul said Congress would change the face of the state by creating jobs for the youth of the state, where the BSP government has been "neglecting" development issues forcing people to migrate to cities like Mumbai.
