The residents of Maninagar acted police for day when they came face to face with armed burglars late on Sunday night. They not only risked their lives to catch the thieves, but also successfully managed to put them behind bars.

According to case details, on Sunday night at around 11:30 pm, Harish Gajjar, 25, resident of Kashijhaver no banglo in Maninagar, was sitting with his friends at Nutanshakti society's common plot.

They suddenly saw a white Tavera come out from the society and heading towards Kalgi apartments. The car came back, and this time it rode towards Sukhipura grounds. This raised suspicion among the Gajjar and his friends who decided to follow the car.
When the car stopped on the Sukhipura ground, three men got out of it and barged into the Nutan society. Navgad Patni, the leader of the gang, noticed that Gajjar and a few others were keeping a tab on them.

The thieves caught hold of them and Patni even placed a revolver on Gajjar's head, but one of Gajjar's friends hit Patni with a stick and the pistol fell on the ground. The residents then raised an alarm and called for help after which the onlookers gathered around the thieves and caught hold of two of them, Navgad alias Amit, a resident of Talun village in Nadiad and Hasmukh alias Devdas Waghela, a resident of Ahmedabad; the mob also seized their car. However, the other two, Kiran Waghela and Vijay Waghela, both residents of Ahmedabad, managed to escape from the spot.

Later, the residents informed the Maninagar police about the incident and handed over Patni and Hasmukh to them.

Navgad Patni, however, pretended that he was hurt and demanded that he be admitted to the Civil hospital. Bharat Barot, PI, Maninagar police station, said, "Patni has had a major role in robberies across the city and even in Rajasthan. We have seized one pistol, five bullets, Tavera car and other tools from the thieves. Their attempt to burgle houses in the society was successfully foiled."

Patni has also been involved in over 100-150 thefts in Kheda, Anand, Nadiad, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and areas near Ahmedabad. Patni managed to escape police custody on other occasions too, but there was no escape for him this time. Recently, he was also caught by the Rajasthan police.
