Property tax to cross Rs450 crore: Ahmedabad civic body

The Ahmedabad municipal corporation revenue department had already collected Rs449 crore by late Thursday evening, the last day of financial year 2010-11.

The total collection of revenue by way of property tax by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will cross Rs450 crore, according to official figures released by the AMC's revenue department.

The civic body's revenue department had already
collected Rs449 crore by  late Thursday evening and as it's the last day of financial year 2010-2011, the figure is likely to rise before the deadline of midnight.

"The figure will touch Rs453 crore before midnight which is Rs50 crore more than the previous year's amount of Rs403 crore," said Arjav Shah, deputy municipal commissioner, revenue department.
AMC had set a target of Rs425 crore which has already been crossed.

Besides, the professional tax collected by the civic body has seen a rise of 15% for the financial year 2010-11, as compared to the previous year.

The civic body has collected Rs70 crore as professional tax, as against Rs60 crore of previous year. The collection of vehicle tax also rose by 32%. The civic body has collected Rs 25.16 crore as vehicle tax for the financial year 2010-11, as compared to Rs19 crore collected in the previous year.

In another development, AMC has decided to provide water twice a day during summer which will be applicable from April 15 to June 15. This decision was taken in the standing committee meet held on Thursday.

The committee also passed a resolution to purchase new cars for 21 chairpersons of different committees and 7 deputy commissioners. The total budget for the new cars is proposed at Rs1.5 crore.
