Congress today welcomed President Pratibha Patil's address to the joint sitting of members of Parliament saying it clearly outlined the government's priorities.

Party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that the President's address showed that containing inflation is the foremost priority of the government and also reflected its genuine concern about lack of probity in public life.

The spokesperson said while the address highlighted the government's committment to sustaining momentum of growth on the one hand, it also echoed the focus on including all sections in the process of development on the other.

Singhvi downplayed a question on why the plight of Tamil fishermen in Sri Lankan waters did not find a mention in Patil's address, saying it was not possible to include each and every issue in the address but non-mentioning of any issue in it does not mean that the government was not serious about it.
