Police arrest man for 'rape', 'abduction' in Haryana

Police here have arrested a married man, who eloped with a girl and lived with her for a week, on the charge of rape and abduction.

Pradeep Sharma, 25, who lived on rent in the Railway Colony here, was arrested for allegedly raping the 20-year-old girl, police said.

Sharma developed intimacy with the girl following which they eloped to Delhi on January 22 and lived together for over a week, they said. However, when the girl grew restless after learning that Pradeep was already married, they returned to the colony here yesterday.

Sharma was apprehended. Police said the medical examination of the girl confirmed sexual assault.

The accused was today produced in court of the chief judicial magistrate who remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier, the police had registered a case of abduction, rape and criminal intimidation in the matter.
