Chief minister Omar Abdullah today refuted the PDP claim that it supported the surrender and rehabilitation programme of Kashmiri youths in PoK and said it was only his party that had taken the initiative.

The records in the assembly are testimonies to the fact that PDP voted against the resolution moved by CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami and that NC supported the initiative, Omar said addressing a public meeting at Kalakote in Rajouri district, 100 kms from here.

"Some people are habitual in telling lies in private while others shamelessly speak falsehood publicly," he said referring the PDP's claim that it supported the surrender and rehabilitation of youths who had crossed across the line of control (LoC) and borders during militancy.

The Centre has supported Omar's proposed surrender policy, which was moved by Tarigami in the J&K Assembly in September 2005, and PDP also favoured the Union government's nod saying it was a welcome gesture in tune with its agenda of reconciliation.

Omar, however, said PDP has developed the trait of making brazen lies in public, while BJP has the habit of opposing all
good things for the sake of opposition.

Reiterating that his government has a firm commitment for upholding human rights and punishing the violators, the chief
minister said his administration would not allow a handful of
hooligans to keep peace a hostage in certain parts of Srinagar
    city by acts of stone-pelting.
