Only God saved us: Kalka Mail survivors

Over 350 passengers, who survived the Kalka Mail accident reached the national capital on Monday in a terrified state. They want to forget the nightmare even as they admit that memories of those dark hours would take time to fade..

“More than 165 passengers were brought to New Delhi by a special train, which reached at 5:30 am. All survivors have been evacuated from the accident site,” said a Northern Railway official.

Rajat, a survivor, said it would take sometime for him to come to terms with the tragedy as he saw dead bodies lying all over the train.

“There were dead bodies in the coach and some bodies were in a very bad shape. I can’t explain it in words...,” he said.

Trina Majumdar, was on her way to take admission in MSc (Chemistry) in Delhi University she lost her baggage that had all her educational certificates and other documents. Trina suffered injuries in her right leg.

She said it took over three hours for rescuers to reach the spot. “We did not even have water to drink.”

Another injured person, Hasim also lost a bag in the melee. “There was no time to look for the bag as our prime concern was to come out of the coach safely.”

All passengers DNA spoke to thanked God for their survival. “ If I am talking today, it is only because of God,” said another injured passenger Dilip, who was travelling in a general compartment.

Due to the sudden impact of the accident, Dilip’s head had banged against the window of the coach.

Relatives of the surviving passengers were also waiting at the railway station to receive their loved ones.
