To support the engineering student from Bhavnagar, Hitesh Jadeja, members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Gujarat University Welfare Committee staged a protest at Gujarat Technological University (GTU) on Friday. Jadeja is not allowed to take the remedial exam.

The group consisting around 20 students submitted a memorandum to GTU vice chancellor Dr Akshai Aggarwal, asking him to stop harassing students. Jadeja has been visiting the GTU office for three days as he needs to appear in the remedial exam before he sits for the third semester exam of ME.

Jadeja had got ATKT in the first and second semesters, so he needed to take up the remedial exam that would allow him to appear in third semester exam. Jadeja claims he filled up exam forms for the remedial exam but found that the subjects in which he needs to appear are not there in exam time-table
published by GTU.

A member of the welfare committee, Naren Patel, said that students face difficulty as they are not given correct information and sometimes officials also make them run from college to office. “NSUI has demanded that the official who did not listen to Jadeja be suspended,” he said.

Meanwhile, around 74,000 students of GTU will appear for semester exams from Saturday. While 10,000 of them are pharmacy students, the others are engineering students from 400 colleges affiliated to GTU. Around 10,000 officials and teachers will be on exam duty.
