Nigerian nabbed with contraband in Ahmedabad

A Nigerian national was caught red-handed by narcotics bureau while trying to courier heroin to South Africa on Sunday. The investigating agency identified the arrested Nigerian as Emanuel Francis alias Abaku Nigerian and seized 280 gram heroin worth Rs28 lakh in the international market. The Nigerian was arrested following a complaint filed by an official from Swastik TNT Media Pvt Ltd Courier agency.

According to sources, Francis who had come to Ahmedabad from New Delhi a few days ago, went to the courier agency located at Navrangpura two days back. Francis told the agency officials that he had to send seven purses to South Africa. However, the courier agency suspected a foul play and informed the officials of the narcotics bureau.

On Sunday, when Francis reached the courier agency to dispatch the purses, he was nabbed by the sleuths of the bureau. The contraband was kept inside cavities in five of the purses and was stitched to conceal it.

SP of the narcotics bureau, PN Sarvaiya said, "We received information about the Nigerian and nabbed him when he reached the courier agency. On investigation it was found that he had concealed heroin inside the purses. This is the first time that we have come across such a unique modus operandi."

Sleuths are investigating as to from where he brought the contraband. The cops are investigating as to whether the substance was brought from New Delhi or it was procured from some place in Gujarat.
