Newspapers fail to hit the stands in Manipur

A spokesperson of the All Manipur Working Journalists union (AMWJU) said they have submitted a memorandum to chief minister O Ibobi Singh who agreed to provide security to media houses.

Newspapers failed to hit the stands in Manipur today following threat from a militant outfit.

A spokesperson of the All Manipur Working Journalists union (AMWJU) said they have submitted a memorandum to chief minister O Ibobi Singh who agreed to provide security to media houses.

The dailies would resume publication from tomorrow, he said.

While a militant outfit wanted to publish their statement, their rival threatened not to publish it.

In the recent years, newspapers have not been published for some days in almost every month because of the threat from militant outfits.
