More mysteries could have been unraveled in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case if the CID (Crime) could have been performed  the narco tests, which it had sought of tainted and suspended IPS officer DG Vanzara and others accused in the case.

The CID (Crime) had filed an application in the court of additional sessions judge RH Sharma for conducting the test on Vanzara and others accused in the case. The sessions court had accepted the police application and had given the responsibility to the investigating agency to conduct the narco test on former senior Gujarat police official DG Vanzara. The Forensic Science Laboratory, Gandhinagar was all set to conduct the tests from May 5 to 8, 2008.

The CID (Crime) had moved a revision petition in the sessions court after the application moved by DIG Rajnish Rai in the chief metropolitan court for a narco test to be conducted on the accused was rejected. The investigating agency then moved the city sessions court which permitted the application. However, it left it to investigating agency to conduct the narco test after the prosecution referred to a decision by the Gujarat High Court in the Santokben Jadeja case.

Those whose narco tests were to be conducted, apart from Vanzara, included IPS officers Rajkumar Pandian, MN Dinesh, NK Amin and a few others. Advocate Rohit Verma said, "The sessions court had asked the investigating agency to decide whether it requires the narco test of accused in the case, but the agency didn't conduct the test."

Later, in September 2008, the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings in a trial court over the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter by the Gujarat police. The stay was ordered by a bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and Aftab Alam. Soharabuddin was killed by the Gujarat police in a fake encounter
on November 26, 2005, and after a couple of days his wife Kauser Bi was also eliminated.
