As if the absconding suspect in the murder of a restaurant manager in Vejalpur was not enough of a mystery, the police are now also struggling to find out the true identity of the victim, Manish Gupta. He has apparently claimed his father's name was Janki Ram and at some places revealed it as Dhruvnarayan. Moreover, the victim does not even seem to have a genuine address. He also went about with two surnames.

The police found a leaving certificate from his belongings from the scene of crime, which shows his name as Manish Sahay instead of Manish Gupta as was mentioned to the owner of Panjari Restaurant. Manish worked as a manager with the restaurant.
"We are checking the facts in the leaving certificate, but suspect that the details may not be genuine," said a source.

"We tried to contact his near ones with the help of the residential address mentioned in his bio-data but so far have failed to find anyone related to him," said investigating officer and police inspector, Vejalpur police station, JM Bharwad.

He said investigations have revealed that he may be a resident of Bilaspur in Uttaranchal. Police even have doubts about the name of victim. Investigations have revealed that the victim's colleagues knew him by some other name.  "He had told one of his friends that Manish was not his real name and he used it because he liked it," a police source said.

Apart from that, the police have also tried to get in touch with the victim's former employer. "We had tried to contact hotels and restaurants where he had worked before joining this place but so far no one knows about his true identity," a police source said.

A police team has already questioned the owners of a restaurant in Mehsana where he had worked before joining Panjari. Group chairman, Panjari Restaurant, Bharat Patel told DNA that the victim was hard working and had earlier worked with a restaurant in Mehsana.

"We tasted the food prepared by his men and recruited him as the general manager," Patel told DNA.
