MPs, ministers face heat of Lokpal agitation, protestors throng houses

Ministers and MPs faced the heat of Anna Hazare's agitation on day seven as supporters staged sit-ins and impromptu protests outside residences of lawmakers in many parts of the country today demanding their support for Jan Lokpal Bill following a call by the Gandhian.

Protests were held outside the residences of Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and several MPs in the capital.

In Ranchi, Hazare supporters staged a sit-in near the house of Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were clamped in Chandigarh banning assembly of five or more person outside the houses of VIPs till August 25 after a protest took place at the residence of Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal in Sector 28.

Congress MP Priya Dutt, who stepped out of her home in suburban Bandra to meet protesters, said, "the Prime Minister and judiciary must come under Lokpal," supporting a key demand of Team Anna.

Sanjay Nirupam, MP from North Mumbai who donned an Anna Hazare-like cap, faced protesters in suburban Vile Parle. He said he supported Hazare's cause and favoured a strong Lokpal Bill.

When protesters went to the house of South Mumbai MP and Minister of State Milind Deora, he was not there. They submitted a memorandum to an aide of his.

In Uttar Pradesh, the demonstrations coinciding with 'Janmashtmi' saw children dressed as "Krishna" joining the dharnas before the houses of many Members of Parliament.

A social organisation, Marvari Yuva Manch, started a signature campaign in support of the movement in Lucknow on a 101-foot wide banner.

Protesters, including members of India Against Corruption, sat on dharna at the house of Samajwadi Party MP from Chandauli Ram Kisun Yadav and shouted slogans.

In Lakhimpur activists, squatted in front of Congress MP Zafar Ali Naqvi's residence.
