Don't get irritated if Metro train stops abruptly while on journey.

Metro officials today hinted that minor delays of the Metro trains may keep happening for some time as commissioning of new metro lines will put a burden on maintenance work but assured that it will take all steps to lessen inconvenience to passengers.

"They (delays and other problems) are because of maintenance and operational problems that the Metro is encountering due to increasing number of passengers opting for the Metro and fast expansion of the network," said Rajkumar, director (Operations and Maintenance).

With the Yamuna Bank-Noida Line likely to be commissioned by the middle of November and the entire second phase by next year, maintenance and operations of the Metro will become little difficult.

"By the end of next year, the DMRC will operate 200 trains as against the current around 70 and will have 141 stations under its control. The current network which has 70 kms will be expanded to 190 kms by next year," he said, adding that the workforce of Metro will increase upto 6,000 by next year.

During an interaction with a group of reporters, he also claimed Delhi Metro is one of the most punctual new age transport system in the world.

"Our punctuality rate is 99.5 per cent and our delay time last count of 60 seconds where as in Metros abroad it is five minutes. Our trains do get delayed. But not like the ones in other countries. DMRC is one of the best metros in the world," he said.
