Meet on ‘Physics for tomorrow’ starts in Ahmedabad

A national level conference called 'Physics for Tomorrow' kick-started at St Xavier's College, Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Dr Rajesh Iyer, a lecturer from the college, is the convener of the two-day conference that will continue with more presentations and discussions by students, researchers and eminent faculty from physics disciplines across the country.

The idea behind the conference is to raise awareness about physics and environmental sciences in general. "It is also an avenue for students to participate and benefit from the wealth of knowledge presented by lecturers and eminent personalities in their fields from all over India," said Dr Iyer.

The itinerary of the conference includes interactive presentations by academia as well as industry stalwarts, panel discussions and poster presentations. The conference aims to cover various topics pertaining to physics and its development in the modern context.

Day one saw Anil Razdan speak on challenges in the field of physics. He also recommended possible solutions to the same. Prof GK Mehta, from IIT, Kanpur, spoke about 'The Need of the Hour' while Prof SK Malhotra gave a presentation on nuclear reactors.

The entry is open to all students, regardless of their discipline.  Besides a competition for the best scientific poster award, the seminar is also hosting two workshops on 'Energy and Environment for a Sustainable Future' and 'Newer Materials for Tomorrow'.
