One of the most ambitious private public partnership plans between the government engineering colleges and private players failed to kick off this year.

The partnership was to provide more engineering seats, better facilities and quality education to students of the state.

But many colleges that offered lucrative branches of engineering have failed to make it to the list of institutes when admissions for engineering began on Thursday.

Sources said these colleges had failed to get AICTE recognition as they were not able to come with the facilities that the recognition demands.

As per the agreement,  private players were to provide better facilities and upgrade existing college infrastructure to make engineering education in the state more techno friendly.

“When the time came to fulfil the conditions as per AICTE requirements, these colleges were found to be way below the required standards and hence did not get confirmation,'' said a member of the admission committee.

Students had feared that the number of seats would decline and they would not get a branch of their choice if private players failed to get recognition. However, these fears were unfounded following announcement of increase in number of seats in existing colleges and sanction of at least 2,000 engineering seats in government colleges.

Sources said that due to increase in number of seats in engineering colleges across the state,  students aspiring to take engineering as a career will not face problem in getting admission.

Officials said that apart from building and other infrastructural facilities required  to seek AICTE recognition, these private college owners had also failed to get good teachers.

Principal of LD Engineering College and member of Admission Committee MN Patel ruled out any problem in number seats and students failing to get admissions.
