A botched murder or a kidnapping case is heard of. But a botched suicide case may sound strange. Jamalpur bridge was the site for one such case on Friday, when the victim cancelled his bid to commit suicide at the last moment and was left hanging from the bridge, crying for help. After half an hour of such high drama, fire brigade officials rescued the man.

On Friday afternoon, one Jayesh Parmar, a resident of Rakhial, came to the flower market end of Jamalpur bridge. He sat on the border of the bridge wall and tried to jump into the river. However, soon, he changed his mind.

But it was too late for him, as he was already hanging from the bridge, and shouting for help. After hearing his cries, some shopkeepers and hawkers rushed to him and extended their hand to pull him up. However, he was hanging from the lower section of the bridge wall, making it difficult for others to help him.

One of the eyewitnesses called the fire control and asked them to rescue Parmar. The fire officials pulled him out through a rope, and took him to Ellisbridge police.

Police learnt that Parmar had decided to commit suicide as he was facing a financial crunch, and had a verbal fight with his family members on Friday morning.
