Adani Group took 24 hours to come out with a clarification. On Saturday noon, the company submitted a five-point statement to Indian stock bourses clarifying that their firm never owned or operated any iron ore mine in Karnataka.

Referring to the Lok Ayukta report submitted to the governor of Karnataka, Adani Enterprises claims that only a part of the report is circulated in the public domain.

"It is difficult to confirm the accuracy or authenticity of such a document," said the statement.

In the statement, the company has stated that Adani Enterprises was one of the four parties providing service as a port operator at Belekeri. As a port operator, the company is responsible for cargo received within the port, keep the stocks while waiting for the arrival of the ship and loading the cargo under Customs supervision.

The company claimed that Adani Group did not own or operate the iron ore mines in the country including Karnataka, neither in the past nor now. Calling it an avoidable controversy, the statement claimed, "Linking Adani Enterprises to any illegal iron ore mining is purely imaginary and intended to defame the company."

Since June 2010, the company had discontinued the operations as a port operator at Belekeri and had informed stock exchanges about it in August 2010. "The port activities at Belekeri were being conducted as per permissible laws purely as a port operator, that is, as a provider of port services," said the statement.

Adani Group claimed that such gratification cannot be attributed to the company. "Any alleged illegal gratification can not be attributed to Adani Enterprises, as the company is mere a port operator and the cargo interest always was with either the miners or other parties," it said.

The company claimed that it conducts its business within the framework of existing laws and would defend its legal position vigorously. "All statements against the company are allegations being made unilaterally and the company has had no opportunity to represent itself so far," ends the statement.
