The central Intelligence Bureau (IB) has sounded another alert about a possible terror attack in the state. The latest IB message warns of the Pakistan-based militant group, Lashkar-e-Toiba, sending its operatives across the land border to carry out a terrorist strike in the state.

In an earlier message, the IB had given information about the LeT having told three of its operatives to enter Gujarat through the coast and lay the ground for a terrorist strike in the state. An intelligence source told DNA that after receiving this IB warning, the state police had taken steps that had foiled the terrorists’ plans.
In response to the latest IB alert, the state police have enhanced security in all places and increased co-ordination with other agencies.

The latest IB message clearly says that, of all states, Gujarat is most vulnerable to a terrorist attack by the LeT as the state shares both land and sea borders with Pakistan. “The IB message says that the LeT could strike in any part of the state and that it has activated its sleeper cells in Gujarat,” the intelligence source said.

The IB message says that there is information which indicates that the agents of the LeT could enter the state even by land after crossing the border to organise a terror strike anywhere in the state.
In response to the IB alert, the Navy, Coast Guard, coastal police, local police, Border Security Force, Army and the customs department have all heightened surveillance along both land and sea borders of the country.

The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has also stepped up security at the ports under its jurisdiction. The local police have activated their sources and have increased patrolling, especially in the border districts of the state.

The western Coast Guard have deployed most of their patrolling vehicles to patrol the 3,341-km-long western shoreline, including the shoreline of Gujarat. This is the first deployment on such a massive scale along the coast, after the Mumbai terror attack.
