The much talked about Land Acqusition Bill is unlikely to come in the winter session of Parliament as it is still with the Standing Committee on Rural Development which has held only few meetings to deliberate on it, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said here today.

The development comes despite Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh reaching out to BJP with a request that its leader Sumitra Mahajan, who heads Parliamentary Committee examining the legislation, expedite its report.

The Government is keen to get Bill passed before Uttar Pradesh polls next year. The Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill 2011 was introduced in the Monsoon session of Parliament.

Last month, Ramesh had written to Mahajan requesting her to submit the Standing Committee report during the forthcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

He had also met Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and spoke to her counterpart in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley and made a specific request to them that they should impress upon Mahajan to expedite the Standing Committee report so that it could be placed in Parliament and passed by December-end.
