Chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday kicked off the Krishi Mahotsava of central Gujarat zone at Petlad in Anand. A large number of farmers and cattle-rearers from seven districts, including Ahmedabad, were present at the event.

Modi attributed the growth in rural economy of the state in the past decade or so to Krishi Mahotsavas being conducted for the past eight years. He lauded farmers for putting faith in the knowledge imparted at the annual event and for using scientific methods of farming for better output. He felicitated progressive farmers and their families on the occasion.

He said the government plans to boost income levels of farmers by encouraging value-addition in crops and by ensuring that farmers get high price for their produce.

“We want to put before the world an exemplary model for agricultural development,” he said. Modi said that the government had managed to eradicate a number of diseases from animals through cattle health camps in the state.
