Steal Rs30 lakh jewels from shop when security guard goes to warm his hands.
The recent cold wave has proved to be terribly costly for a jeweller in Naranpura. Due to the extreme cold on Thursday night, the security guard was absent from his place at the store, getting warmth from a fire ablaze somewhere nearby. Taking advantage of the situation, thieves cut 6 to 8 locks of the shop and fled with silver ornaments worth Rs30.73 lakhs.
Narendra Patel and his son Piyush Patel are residents of Super Bungalows in Sola. They own two shops in Abhimanyu Complex near Shastrinagar vegetable market in Naranpura for the past 14 years. They also have a readymade garment shop in the same complex and own one jewellery showroom named NC Jhaveri and Sons in shop No. 17. They have installed a glass partition and a door between the two shops.
On Friday morning, Jagdishbhai, owner of a stationery shop adjacent to theirs, called Piyush Patel and informed him about the broken locks and shutter of their shop. When Piyush and his father Narendra reached the spot, they found the main locks of their shops broken, and 54 kg of silver artifacts and ornaments worth Rs 30.73 lakhs missing.
The valuables include idols of gods, utensils, and other ornaments. After primary investigation, Naranpura police learned that the theft happened Thursday night after 10pm. They also learned that the thieves haven't touched the fake ornaments, and also cut the wires of CCTV cameras after entering in.
The dog squad and FSL experts were also called, and 3 fingerprints were found from the spot. When asked about the theft, the security guard told the police that he was at the other side of the building to get some heat from a fire. However, police are not ruling out the involvement of the security guard in the theft.
