'Jafri said he had called Modi'

Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad: Imitiaz Khan Pathan, a witness in the Gulberg Society massacre has deposed before the court of judge BU Joshi that on the day of incident on February 28, 2002 he had come to know from former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri that the latter had made a call to chief minister Narendra Modi seeking help.Pathan said that Jafri told him that Modi not only failed to help him but also used harsh words against him. Pathan had deposed before the court on November 2.

According to assistant public prosecutor, Naina Bhatt Pathan also said that he had identified 21 accused including then Meghaninagar PI KJ Erda, VHP leader Dr Atul and others. Imitiaz, whose grandfather Anwar Khan Pathan was killed by rioters, has also deposed before the court about the part played by the accused in killing his grandfather. The three accused also allegedly raped and killed his sister-in-law (bhabhi) Sajida Bano and another woman.

The deposition of Imitiaz Khan Pathan assumes importance as charges were framed against accused in the Gulberg Society massacre recently.Imitiaz told the court about the police's lackadaisical approach as they failed to file a complaint as per their statements.
