Chief minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, urged corporate leaders in Delhi to take part in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat summit, and to invest in Gujarat.

"Gujarat is the growth engine of India, and this is backed by strong statistics. The state contributes 16% to India's industrial production and 22% to the country's exports," Modi told the large gathering of industrialists and businessmen in the national capital.

He added that while industries are growing at a double digit rate, even the agriculture sector is doing very well in the state. "Gujarat's agricultural growth rate has been over 9.5% in the last decade, against the national average of 2%," he said.

The CM met some 350-odd leading businessmen from Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR), besides office bearers of 26 foreign embassies, during the road show and the meeting. He held one-on-one meetings with more than a dozen leading companies from the region. He also met with senior ministers in-charge of Japan and Canadian embassies, the two partner countries for the upcoming summit.

Modi said that with the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and various Special Investment Region (SIR) projects, Gujarat will also see 12 modern cities across the state in the coming years.
Delhi was the fourth city after Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru, where the road shows have been held to woo investors to the biennial event. A similar road show is also slated to be held in Hyderabad in the first week of December.

Speaking about the event itself, the CM said that the summit will emerge as the platform for global business partnerships.

"This time, we have invited other Indian states to use the platform to attract investments. Around 80 countries will also take part in the event," Modi said.

He also added that Gujarat is not taking the traditional route of offering various industrial incentives, but is instead creating excellent business environment by providing the best infrastructure.

He said that Gujarat is opening new avenues for growth with development in sectors like nano technology, environment technology and medical tourism.

The CM said that Gujarat has adopted an approach of balanced economy and of giving equal importance to industries, agriculture and the service sector. Within the service sector, tourism will be given the highest importance, he said.

Modi said that the state is also keen to partner with Asian countries like Japan, S Korea, Singapore and China for various projects.
