Union communications and IT minister A Raja today said he would take up the matter of illegal constructions in this tourist town with chief minister M Karunanidhi and request him to consider it as as 'one-time offence' and regularise them.
Participating in the valedictory of the annual flower show at the Botanical Gardens here, Raja said the Madras high court had already issued orders to demolish 1,336 illegal constructions, which were considered as environmental hazard.
An all party delegation has already met the deputy chief minister MK Stalin and apprised him of the issue, he said,
adding he would appeal to the state government to regularise these constructions.
The government has already allocated Rs.five crore for giving a facelift and to modernise the Botanical Gardens, he
said.
