Amidst fears of a global meltdown, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) completed its summer placements - 2011-12 on Friday.

The official communiqué from the student placement committee at the IIMA claims that despite recession fears the institute has not seen any grim side of the economic slowdown and around 379 internship offers were accepted by 380 students who participated in the summer placements.

The fourth and final cluster process for summer placements at IIMA concluded today after placing the entire first year
batch. More than 20 companies conducted interviews in Cluster 4, which included recruiters like Tata Steel, Aviva Insurance and Samsonite. Tata Steel made the highest number of offers in this cluster.

Professor Saral Mukherjee, placement chairperson, IIMA, said, “With the prospect of a global economic downturn, we were concerned about how summer placements would shape up at IIMA. But the confidence that recruiters place in our students is evidenced by the fact that we were able to secure quality internships for all our students easily. With 379 acceptances across four clusters, IIMA closes its PGP summer placement process for 2011-2012,” he stated.

He added that as per the requirements of the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS), IIMA will publish its audited Summer Placement Report for PGP and PGPABM programme as soon as the audit requirements are completed.”

Agneya Carbon Ventures, started last year by three IIMA 2007 alumni, visited the campus to hire interns. Rahul Dasari, Lead - Marketing and Business Development, commented, “We see this as a homecoming since IIMA is where our journey began. We work in the renewable energy sector and advise firms on strategies on sustainability. We offered roles in research, project management and business development to students.”
