The number of professional colleges and seats have
increased manifold in recent years, but the government has not set up any new hostels.

Alleging gross negligence by the government, executive council member of Gujarat University Manish Doshi has alleged that in the last 10 years the government has not made even a single hostel for students coming from outside Ahmedabad.

Backing his claim by data released by the directorate of technical education, Gujarat state, Doshi said that there is no proper hostel facility for girls even in the biggest engineering college of the state -- LD Engineering College. For the last many years only 30 girls are being accommodated in Gujarat College's hostel on common pool basis. In the last couple of years, the number of seats has increased more than 4000 yet only 30 girls can get hostel facility.

"This is despite the fact that there are hundreds of girls and boys hailing from rural areas and they need hostels, but there is none.
In the state there are 83 engineering colleges with 31,881 students, 88 pharmacy colleges with 5175 students, 74 diploma engineering colleges with 40,090 students and 85 MBA colleges wherein 5630 students are studying. Compared to this, the total capacity of hostel facility is dismal," Doshi said.

He further said that in LD Engineering College and three polytechnic colleges run by the government there is no separate hostels for girls.
