Gujarat university gets Amol Palekar as faculty

What's more, renowned actor Amol Palekar will teach the nuances of acting and groom budding actors. The department will offer degrees ranging from certificate course to PhD in drama, dance, music and film-making.

In what can be termed as great news for art lovers, Gujarat University vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi has said that the varsity will be coming up with its own School of Performing Arts in the next academic year. What's more, renowned actor Amol Palekar will teach the nuances of acting and groom budding actors. 

The department will offer degrees ranging from certificate course to PhD in drama, dance, music and film-making.

"The department will be named Upasana, and renowned artists and students will be taught as per the Guru-Shishya tradition," said Trivedi.

The school will offer different courses to under-graduate performing arts students. It will also offer the common man 3 and 6-month certificate courses.

Trivedi said, "People with inclination and interest can learn classical music and receive a valid university certificate," said Trivedi.

For students, the school will offer 1 year diploma course, along with post-graduate and PhD courses in drama, music and film-making. The PG course will be 4-semester, and 30 students will be accommodated in each stream.

"The fee has been kept at Rs10,000 per semester and admission process will begin from June 10," said Trivedi.

Apart from Amol Palekar, the university will invite Saumya Joshi, Sarswat, Viraj-Amar and 20 other renowned artists to teach students dramatics and theatre. Vice-chancellor of Lucknow University and renowned classical singer Shruti Sadolikar will also be roped in for teaching students classical music.
