Giving relief to the advocates of the state practicing in the lower courts, the Gujarat high court on Thursday allowed them leave from wearing black coats during the summer days. This leeway will be applicable only from April 1 to July 30.

The high court had allowed the advocates practicing in the magistrate courts, city civil and sessions court and district courts to appear before the courts without their black coats for four months.

They just had to wear formals. But the formals should have a white shirt and a tie with the logo of the bar council. The Bar Council of Gujarat had approach the Gujarat high court for amendment of rules regarding dress code at least during the summers.

The council had argued that the apart from council of Gujarat all other states had moved the apex court to change the dress code and spare the advocates the agony of having to wear black coats during the summer days.

The then chief Justice of India HP Bharucha had allowed the pleading and changed the dress code for summer. The Gujarat high court had after considering the said argument allowed the petition and permitted the advocates to avoid wearing black coats during four months of summer.
