Goa’s political crisis were eclipsed today with the troubleshooting initiative by the state party leaders at the behest of high command.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar, who returned from Delhi last night, indicated that the crisis are blown over even though dissident Congress legislators maintained that they will be meeting tomorrow to press for the demand of leadership change.

Shirodkar, who was on a troubleshooting mission, this morning met dissident legislators Pandurang Madkaikar and Dayanand Narvekar.

"There will be no leadership change and the government is strong," he told a press conference after his meeting.

A group of five Congress legislators have rebelled against the State government demanding dethroning of chief minister Digamber Kamat accusing him of failure to govern the state.

The group comprised of Pandurang Madkaikar, Churchill Alemao, Fransisco Silveira, Agnelo Fernandes and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.

The GPCC chief, talking to media, said that there was indiscipline on the part of Congress legislators who publicly aired their grievances without taking the party organisation into confidence.

"If they had any issues they can be discussed within the four walls of party set up. There was no need to go public with the issues," Shirodkar, who sympathised with the issues, said.

The Goa Congress chief said that after the public outburst against the chief minister, Kamat will be often meeting the legislators so that they can give vent to their problems.

"Madkaikar has genuine problem. It’s an open secret that he wants cabinet berth," Shirodkar said. He said that all the issues are settled and whatever indiscipline that existed has got over.

The dissident group, however, maintained that they will be meeting on Saturday to press for their demand of leadership change.

"We are firm on our demands. We have support of more Congress legislators," Madkaikar said last night.

A group of seven non-Congress legislators who initially backed the rebellion has now did a volte face with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Ramakrishna Dhavalikar reposing his faith in Digamber Kamat. The seven legislators-comprised of three NCP, two MGP, one united Goans Democratic Party and an independent legislator.

Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat who returned from Delhi told reporters that he is undisturbed by the moves. "I am not disturbed. I came just now from Delhi, I will talk to them and see what are their grievances," he told reporters last night.
