  • An incubation centre to boost and promote rural entrepreneurship among IRMA students
  • Add at least 60 seats to the current strength of IRMA's Post-graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PRM) course
  • Come up with additional infrastructure to provide accommodation within the campus to the additional students

These are some of the ambitious plans chalked out by the authorities at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), country's premier rural management institute.

Setting up student-friendly facilities at the lush green campus is turning out to be a rather ambitious project for the institute as it reels under fund crunch, the main roadblock in the path of these plans from translating into reality. The 3-decade-old institute has corpus fund of not more than Rs28 crore. It, however, got a financial boost in the form of a one-time grant of Rs25 crore from the central government in this annual budget 2012-13.

At a point when the institute is yet to receive the aid announced by the central government, the funds available with it hardly suffices to fulfill the growth story of the institute, lamented Prof Jeemol Unni, director of the institute, while interacting with media.

In fact, IRMA has roped in the services of a consultant expert to guide them in identifying resources for receiving grants, fund and other financial help in order to achieve the set target of raising funds to the tune of Rs100 crore in the near future.

"There has been talk of setting up an incubation centre. IRMA alumni are ready to help students with their curiosity. But that needs a system in place with ideas, mentorship, infrastructure among others. But we don't have fund to set up these additional infrastructure in the institute at this moment," she said.
