Four youths arrested with gold worth Rs50 lakh

Four youths, allegedly involved in robbing two jewellers after stabbing them in Gujarat, were arrested in the national capital with 2.7 kg of gold worth around Rs50 lakh, police said today.

Bhagya Narain Mehto (28), Sunil (28), Amir Nath (26) and Manoj Kumar (27) were arrested by Crime Branch yesterday from various parts of the city following a probe into the robbing of jewellers in Kutch area of Gujarat on August 29. Gold weighing 2.7 kg and worth over Rs.50 lacs have been recovered from their possession.

Interestingly, in the FIR registered by Gujarat Police, the weight of the robbed gold jewellery is mentioned as about one kg, a senior police official said. The gang had allegedly stabbed Dheeraj Lal Premjee Bhai Soni (55) and his son Navneet Dhiraj Lal Soni (28) when they were on way to their home and decamped with a bag containing the jewellery, he said.

The jewellers suffered serious injuries on the head, back and other parts of the body. The father-son duo is still undergoing treatment in a hospital in Ahmedabad. Gujarat police sought their Delhi counterpart's help after receiving information that some of the suspects in the case belong to Chapra in Bihar and that they were hiding in the national capital.

After taking up the case, Delhi Crime Branch conducted raids were conducted in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and various parts of Delhi to locate the gang.During investigations, the official said, they came to know that the alleged robbers were planning to escape from the capital.

Acting on a tip off, Delhi Police caught Mehto and Sunil from near New Delhi Railway Station when they were planning to escape to Bihar in Vaishali Express. From their possession, robbed gold jewellery articles weighing 550 gm were recovered.

Their interrogation led to the arrest of Nath and Jadav from their house in West Sagarpur. Police recovered 2.13 kg of gold from them. The accused disclosed that "the whole robbery was planned by Sunil who is settled in Gandhi Dham and works as a mechanic there", the official said.

All of them are engaged in agriculture in their home town in Bihar and had gone to Gujarat with the sole purpose of executing the crime.
