In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl student of diploma course in Instrumentation and Control (IC) Engineering course at Nirma University was allegedly gangraped by four youths on April 9. The girl, however, could gather courage to lodge a complaint with Sarkhej police only a week after the incident.
Sarkhej DySP RK Patel said a case of gangrape had been lodged at Sarkhej police station against the four youths. "The girl has alleged in her complaint that her drink was spiked with drugs to make her unconscious. The four accused then raped her one by one," Patel said.
Shabana (name changed) had gone to appear in an exam but she did not take the examination. She was inside the college campus when one of her friends, Vinay, asked her to accompany him on an outing. He then took her to Rosewood Resort near Chharodi on SG Highway where three of his friends were waiting for him.
The four youths (two of whom are her classmates) then took her to a room in the resort where they allegedly gangraped her and kept her in the room after committing the crime. The three other accused have been identified as Ajju, Shivo and Nikki.
On the night of April 10, the four accused allegedly took the girl first to Chandkheda and asked her to consume an Ipill (contraceptive) tablet. But she refused. They then took her to Subhash bridge and then to Nehru bridge and told her to jump into the river and end her life.
She refused to do what they told her. They then cut her hair to change her looks.
After this, the accused took her to an AMC official who they knew. The official allegedly asked her to tell her parents that she had not done well in her exams and that that was why she had not returned home. After that, the four boys took her to Kalupur railway station, took away her cell phone, and made her sit in a train. They warned her never to return to Ahmedabad or else she and her family would be killed. The four accused left the girl in a train but, with the assistance of a person at the station, the girl called up her family members who arrived and took her home.
On April 9, the girl's family had registered a non-cognizable missing complaint with Sarkhej police. When the cops took her statement on her return, she told them that she had gone of her own free will.
One week after the incident, the girl has filed a complaint of gangrape against the four boys at Sarkhej police station. The family says that she was terrified, and that is why she had filed the complaint a week after the incident. The girl's relatives have confirmed that Vinay was one of her friends. Police said that medical tests would be conducted on her and that they had launched a hunt for the four youths.
