Delhi Police nabbed on Wednesday a gang of thieves that had recently broken into the home of a CBI officer in Lodhi Colony, south Delhi. The gang, which only targetted senior bureaucrats in the colony, was planning another robbery in the vicinity when it was arrested.
The four-member gang had broken into over 30 houses and stolen cash, jewellery and electronic goods worth Rs30 lakh in the past six months.
“They usually targetted senior bureaucrats. The four have been named in at least 50cases so far. They were arrested earlier too and sentenced for two years,” police said.
DCP Dhaliwal said, “We recovered Rs1 lakh and jewellery worth Rs2.5 lakh, a country-made pistol, two wrist watches and a digital camera from the four.”
Police suspect the four — Salim Sheikh, 36, Mohammad Suman, 22, Mohammad Shejaan, 21, and Mohammad Sujaan, 21, — are Bangladeshis.
