The former wife of noted Gujarati writer Tarak Mehta allegedly jumped to her death from her seventh floor apartment in the Ambawadi area of the city, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when Ila Doshi (75), who had separated from Mehta 40 years ago and was living alone on the seventh floor of Paradise Apartments, took the extreme step, they said.

Mehta is the writer of the popular TV serial on a private channel, Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chasma.

According to the police, Doshi was suffering from a chronic ailment and left a suicide note saying she was fed up of life and no one should be blamed for her death.

Doshi, after separation from Mehta, had remarried and leaves behind a daughter from that marriage. The daughter is living in the US.

Police said a case of accidental death had been registered and further investigation was on.
