Dense fog in north India today affected rail services in the region with over 40 trains running behind schedule.

A railway spokesperson said more than 40 trains were running behind schedule for several hours.

The departure of six trains from Delhi has also been rescheduled due to dense fog in the capital.

Railways had on December one cancelled over 30 trains for a month anticipating dense fog conditions in the region.

Flight operations were disrupted for three hours as dense fog enveloped the international airport in Kolkata this morning.

Airport sources said that 20 domestic and international flights could not operate from 5.30 AM as fog lowered the visibility to less than 50 metres.

Flight operations resumed partly at 8.45 AM and it will take more time for the normal operations to begin, officials said.

Several planes had to hover in the sky until the fog cleared, sources said.
