Five people died in a fatal accident on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway. A family of five, returning from Surat to Mehsana, died on the spot while other five others were seriously injured in the mishap. They have been admitted to LG Hospital.
The vehicle collided with a parked truck some 20 kms away from Ahmedabad.
Sources close to the development said that the accident occurred at around 7:30 in the morning when the driver of a Tata Sumo car lost his balance. Some eyewitnesses told police that he lost control of his vehicle after a tyre of the car burst. The Sumo crashed into the parked truck.
Sources said that the accident was so fierce that almost the entire upper part of the car was crushed, killing all the five people travelling in it. Sources said that the Sumo was travelling from Surat to Ahmedabad and met with the accident when approaching Ahmedabad.
Those who lost their lives were identified as, Vasant Shah (50), Prita Shah (45), Ramilaben Shah (45), Iraniben Guddhi Suthar (17), Nikunj Shah (16) and Beksha Shah (18).
Rescue teams reached the accident spot on time and five people were taken to LG Hospital. The condition of some of them is said to be critical. Police sources said that after the Sumo hit the truck, another car behind the Sumo too collided into the crash and people sitting in it too were injured.
The injured people were identified as Rekha, Kamlesh, Yusuf, Preksha and Bharat, while the people killed in the accident were all from one family. The accident occurred at around 7:30 am on the Express Highway and the police have registered a case of road accident. They are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
