Four more people aged above 60 years were robbed by fake policemen on Thursday. The latest incidents were reported from areas falling under Ghatlodia, Vastrapur and Ellisbridge police stations. Earlier, similar incidents were reported from Vastrapur, Naranpura, Satellite and other posh localities of the city.

With Thursday's incidents, nine people over 60 years of age have been robbed by fake policemen in the last 11 days of this month.

Of these, seven are women. The total worth of valuables snatched from the victims has been estimated at around Rs5 lakh.

Most of the robberies took place in broad daylight but the police haven't been able to nab the culprits in even one case so far. In fact, all their efforts, right from the setting up of special squads to increased patrolling, have failed to deliver results.

Sources in the police said that a meeting on the rise in crime by fake was held on Thursday by Satish Sharma, joint commissioner of police, sector-1.

Police inspectors of posh localities which fall mainly under Vastrapur, Satellite, Navrangpura and Ellisbridge stations among others, were asked to intensify patrolling and tell their men to be present on the roads and at busy marketplaces. Sharma, however, was not available for comments in this regard.
