Enrol as Games volunteers, bring out Delhi's caring face: CM

With the capital set to host the Commonwealth Games in October, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit today appealed to school and college students to come forward to enrol as volunteers and help present the city as hospitable and caring.

Delivering her address after hoisting the national tricolour at a ceremony organised by the Delhi government to mark the Republic Day, she voiced confidence that the capital will emerge as an international city before the mega event.

"Jo dilli abhi ukhri hui dikhai de rahi hai woh sudhri hui dikhai degi (Delhi, which is now looking dug out due to construction works, will wear a new changed look during the Games)," Dikshit said.
    
She appealed to school and college students to enrol as
volunteers to help the visitors during the event and said the
games committee is organising training programmes.

The youth and children can play a great role to present the city as "hospitable and caring" and ensure that the visitors go back with once-in-a-lifetime memories, she said.

The chief minister earlier unfurled the flag and took the salute of marching contingents of Delhi police, home guards and civil defence, Delhi fire brigade, NCC cadets, school children and police and homeguard bands.

It was a riot of colours in the Ambedkar Stadium here as children of various city schools presented cultural programmes bringing out the diversity of India and specially focussed on the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
