Encephalitis claims one more life; toll 540

One more child today succumbed to Encephalitis in BRD Medical College here as death toll due to the deadly disease rose to 540 in the region since January, a government official said.

Eleven patients were admitted to the MCH and adjoining district hospitals of Gorakhpur and Basti division, additional director (health) LP Rawat said.

Of 3,075 patients admitted to various hospitals with Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), 540 died.

Seventy patients are undergoing treatment at the MCH while seven are admitted to government hospitals of adjoining districts.
