City traffic police is all set to implement the high court directive about wearing helmets from Wednesday, August 10. As announced earlier, traffic cops will show zero tolerance to those who don’t wear a helmet while riding two-wheelers.

The police have decided to detain the vehicle, which can only be claimed from RTO after paying a hefty penalty, in case of non-compliance. However, one major concern for the cops is space required to park the vehicles.

According to RG Jadeja, DySP, traffic, detained vehicles will be kept in the grounds  near police stations. “We have been discussing this issue for the last week. Usage of space available inside police stations seems to be a feasible solution for the time being,” he said.

Nilesh Jhajhadia, additional DCP, traffic said, “We have decided on the use of two towing stations as a long-term solution. We have two grounds available for keeping the vehicles for a long time. One is at Sola and the other is at Danilimda. They will be sufficient for both eastern and western parts of the city.” To bring the vehicles to these grounds, traffic police has deployed eight towing vans across the city.

Another major concern for the cops is the deployment of staff at all the major traffic junctions. According to the officials, a detailed plan for cop deployment across the city will be finalised by Tuesday night. “We will finalise the plan regarding traffic duties for police inspectors, PSIs and constables across the city,” said Jadeja.

Apart from regular traffic staff, the police are also considering deployment of reserve force men for traffic duty, said Jhajhadia.
