While domestic air travel in countries like Japan, China, US have shown a declining trend in April due to factors like Tsunami, tight economic policies, ATF prices, the domestic travel in India grew by 25.6 % for the month of April says International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The association also said that in the last five years “Among the emerging markets India stands out with very strong growth of 25.6% in April. In the past 5 years the domestic air travel market has tripled, compared to a doubling of the Chinese and the Brazilian domestic markets, and compared to a shrinkage of domestic air travel in both US and Japan,” a statement from IATA said.
From now on IATA will also monitor air travel in domestic markets as it earlier covered only international travel. The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) said that India was able to achieve this growth due to cricket world cup and the beginning of tourist season.
