Dr Deepak Rokade, a qualified allopathy doctor and president, Vaishnavi Medical Foundation of Pune, who regarded to be the one who revolutionized the age-old techniques of curing patients with chronic diseases, is on a mission to spread awareness regarding 'holistic therapy,' something that's not so popular among other doctors.

What's more, Darpana Academy has invited him to throw open the 'Purnopachar Center,' next month.

Twenty years ago, Dr Deepak Rokade, who was in the city today, floated a concept 'Purnopachar' — holistic therapy. This unique therapy combines various modern and ancient medical therapies helping to cure difficult diseases.

"Allopathy cannot cure diabetes permanently, and Ayurveda cannot cure cholera and plague. Thus it's important to combine the best of all the available therapies," said Dr. Rokade.

He realised the need to introduce these disciplines to cure patients while he was serving in Andaman and Nicobar in the 90s.

"I realized that only allopathy is not enough to cure patients, thus I learned acupuncture, yoga, pranayama and other therapies," said Dr. Rokade, also an MD in acupuncture.

Dr Rokade stressed on the need for a change in the mindset of doctors who don't want to recognise this holistic way of therapy.

"Doctors should be loyal towards patients, not method of treatment. If one method is not curing, they should try and adopt other methods" opined Dr Rokade, who treats patients using panch-karma as well as pranayama.

"This is not an alternative therapy, it's a complementary therapy. We are not doing away with allopathy and medicines, but our aim is to slowly and gradually remove it from the treatment" said Dr Rokade, who has agreed to treat mentally disabled, autistic children and children with cerebral palsy at "Darpana Purnopachar Center" at a nominal cost.

Dr Rokade is planning to spread awareness about the holistic cure to other cities as well. According to Dr Rokade, the biggest hurdle is the approach of patients as well as doctors.

"I know many MBBS doctor friends who criticise me for not 'being loyal' to allopathy, and advocating other therapies" said the doctor. He wants a paradigm shift in this attitude. He also wants patients to adopt this therapy, rather than trying one after another. "

Just like in the US, we must include this combination of therapies in our course curriculum," opined Dr Rokade, who has successfully cured many patients.
