Infighting in the Gujarat Cricket Association refuses to die down. The tussle between the administrators and coaching staff has hit a low point, as coaches who have not been paid their salaries for two years, have shown their dissatisfaction and have refused
to work.

The pre-season skills camp commenced at GCA Academy Motera Stadium last week. The camp has Ranji team probables from districts affiliated to the GCA in it. Naturally, the senior team and the academy coaches were expected to work in tandem.  But, according to sources, academy coaches Mukund Parmar and Chetan Mankad are the only ones conducting the camp.

Current Ranji Trophy coach Jayendra Sahegal has not reported yet. Even Vijay Patel, who managed the Ranji Trophy team before being shifted to the academy last year, has refused owing to his 2010-11 season salary issue. Last week, as part of desperate measures, GCA had called for a meeting to pacify the coaches, but the latter rejected their offers.

If GCA sources are to be believed, the top brass even urged under-level coaches like Kalpesh Patadiwala, Umesh Belsare, Rajiv Desai, Hitesh Majmudar and Dhiren Barot to supervise the camp.

"It has been two years now. They are giving coaches everything but the salary. If GCA gave a commitment they should fulfill it. Coaches do have families and need money to survive. With what authority are they asking us to work, when they don't have time and money for cricket," said an insider.

GCA is yet to call for the 2011-12 season review meeting. The Gujarat Ranji Trophy team was relegated from Elite to Plate, yet the administrators haven't got enough time to discuss the situation. But GCA secretary Rajesh Patel was as cool as ever and even sounded optimistic when he spoke to DNA. "The camp is going well and soon other coaches will join. Next month we are starting the inter-district tournament and we wish to sort out all the issues before the new season kicks off," he asserted.
