Opposition BJP would demand a "strong" Lok Ayukta on the lines of the proposed Lokpal and would strongly oppose any move by the Delhi Government to bail out private discoms during the Winter Session of the Assembly beginning January 9.

The decision was taken at a meeting of BJP Legislative Party under the chairmanship of Opposition Leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra.

The meeting decided to raise the issue of a strong Lok Ayukta on the lines of Lokpal during the session. They will also demand that the power to institute an inquiry and to award punishment should be given to the Delhi Lok Ayukta.

The MLAs referred to rulings by Lok Ayukta against top Delhi Government functionaries, including ministers, not being implemented. The meeting also decided to demand that the Vigilance Department be brought under the Lok Ayukta.

Malhotra told the meeting that he would raise the matter in the Delhi Assembly about the distribution of provisional regularisation certificates to unauthorised colonies just before the Assembly Elections by Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and her reluctance to regularise the colonies and to cancel the provisional regularisation certificates in respect of 125 colonies.

"BJP strongly condemns Delhi Government's (reported) decision to give a bail-out package of Rs 500 crore to BSES and the party would strongly raise the issue in the Assembly," a statement from the party said.

He said that the funds which the Government has collected from the public of Delhi cannot be spent on big industrial houses.

"Inspite of the fact that there is profit in electricity supply due to stoppage of pilferage of electricity, Delhi Government is reluctant to give any relief to the Delhi public," the release said.

Besides, the party will also raise other issues like "rampant corruption" in DTC. The Legislative Party also demanded that the assembly session should be convened for at least 15 days as against the current five days.
