In a shocking incident, gold and silver worth Rs50 lakh was stolen  from a bullion shop at Varachha by four persons in broad daylight, on Wednesday. Police were informed one hour after the incident took place, which prevented timely investigation of the case. The cops are suspecting involvement of some known person as the modus operandi seems to be planned.

Four persons entered Saibaba Bullion, a firm engaged in manufacturing gold and silver ornaments, located at Bhagunagar in Varachha at 2:15 pm on Wednesday. After tying two workers -Sukhdev Shinde and Mohan Tharad - with heavy thread, looters opened the electronic safe and took away all valuables from it. To prevent them from shouting, the thieves stuffed their mouths with paper. They then put their booty in a black bag and fled from the spot.

Later, Shinde and Tharad freed themselves and informed police, who rushed to the spot. Cops searched the entire area and used sniffer dogs to collect proof from the spot. However, till late in the evening, the police were clueless about the culprits.

The victims told police that the thieves took away 3 kgs of gold, 5 kgs of silver and cash worth Rs3 lakh. The valuables amounted to more than Rs50 lakh. They also informed police that the culprits spoke Hindi. They were six of them in all - two guarding shop from outside.

Investigations reveal that Saibaba Bullion has been functioning for many years and it has offices in Mumbai, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and other important cities in India.

The police suspect the hand of some known person in the case. They said that nobody heard any noise or scream, while the incident took place. Bhagunagar is a densely populated area, with many shops and diamond units situated there.

"It is impossible that the thieves carried out such a big job, without anyone getting a hint about it. We interrogated neighbouring shop-keepers, who said they were totally unaware about the incident. The safe had a digital lock, yet the thieves opened it. We are investigating all angles in the case," said a police official.
Varachha police have registered a case and are investigating into the matter.
