Within hours of the Delhi High Court granting bail to sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) Chief Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday in a Games-related graft case, co-accused Lalit Bhanot and M Jayachandran moved a court in Delhi for the same relief on the grounds of parity.

CWG OC former Secretary General Lalit Bhanot and former Treasurer Jayachandran sought bail saying the allegations levelled against them by CBI were the same as those against Kalmadi and OC former Director General VK Verma who were granted bail today by the high court.

On bail pleas by Bhanot and Jayachandran, the court issued notices to CBI, seeking its reply by January 21.

"Issue notice to CBI for January 21," Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh said.

Seeking bail for Bhanot, advocate Ramesh Gupta cited several judgements of the Supreme Court and said Bhanot was arrested much before Kalmadi and is in custody since February 23 last year.

"I am seeking bail on the ground of parity. I (Bhanot) am in custody along with Verma since February 23 last year and I have spent more time in jail than Kalmadi. He (Kalmadi) was arrested on April 25, 2011. There is no allegation against me (Bhanot) which is different from Kalmadi and Verma," Gupta said.

As CBI sought time to file its response on Bhanot's bail plea, the former OC Secretary General sought interim bail till the disposal of his regular bail plea.

"The court has the power to grant interim bail during the period in which notice has been issued to the prosecution on the regular bail plea," the counsel said.

Jayachandran's counsel too said his client should be granted bail on parity.
