Curfew lifted in Kashmir's Pattan town

Curfew was imposed in several villages of Pattan and Budgam districts on Thursday last following clashes between two sects of Muslims over erecting of a hoarding.

Curfew in violence-hit villages of north Kashmir's Pattan town which was in force since February 25 after clashes between two sects of Muslims was lifted today following improvement in the ground situation.    

"Preventive restrictions on the movement of public on account of curfew in Pattan and Magam villages were lifted as the ground situation has improved," deputy commissioner Budgam Mohammad Rafi said.
    
Curfew was imposed in several villages of Pattan and Budgam districts on Thursday last following clashes between two sects of Muslims over erecting of a hoarding of a spiritual leader at Hagarpora-Qungamdara.
    
Rafi said a public interaction of authorities and residents of the affected region was held at Town Hall, Magam.     

Hundreds of prominent citizens from Hagarpora, Qungamdara, Chechlora, Tantraypora, Vitiuck Sheikhpora, Gockhama (of district Baramulla), Magam, Beerwah, Aripanthan, Makhama,Chewdara, Rathsun, Hazerpora, Arawah, sanoor-Kalipora, Kawoosa and Mazhama (of district Budgam) areas were present.
    
"It was unanimously decided to deal firmly with mischief mongers," Rafi said.
    
Later, a peace march was taken out on the Magam-Narbal road to instill confidence among the people, he said.
