Central forces like CRPF and BSF will undertake intelligence based operations along the borders of states affected by Naxal violence in order to break the Maoists' "vital" network running from one state to another.

"The central forces are now concentrating at inter-border operations because these are the locations where a huge movement of armed Naxal cadres is noticed. Operational success in terms of breaking the Maoist network and movement, is more here," a senior para-military officer deployed in Chhattisgarh said.

The border areas are vital for Maoist network, the officer said.

The officer added that the headquarters of the central forces in Delhi have also approved the step and have asked the combat units to undertake co-ordinated intelligence based operations at these locations.

The step assumes significance as a senior police officer and eight constables were killed in the latest Naxal ambush in a jungle in Gariabandh area along Chattisgarh-Orissa border last evening.

"This ambush was carried out by a group of more than 250 armed Naxals and this is an indicator of the huge presence of such cadres along borders. Naxalites carry out an ambush in one state and sneak into the adjoining state, making police forces carry out a daunting task to locate their presence after such an incident," the officer said.

The central forces like CRPF, ITBP and BSF will undertake more of such operations and an assistant commandant rank officer would always be present in the operations party, the officer said.

A 10-member police team led by additional superintendent of police Rajesh Pawar was ambushed last evening in Sonabed jungle, which falls in Chhattisgarh and is close to the Orissa border.
