External Affairs Minister SM Krishna today voiced happiness over European leaders' decision to take steps to contain the debt crisis in Europe and said he believed a revival of their economies is in the interest of the international community, including India.

"We are happy to note that European leaders have decided to take the required steps to contain the crisis and are confident that lasting remedies will be found and implemented," he told reporters here after talks with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton.

He said India believes a revival of European economies and Europe's continued growth is in the interest of the international community, including India.

He said India is committed to work with the EU as a true and reliable partner to contribute to world peace and prosperity.

"Today we have concluded useful and substantive discussions covering the entire spectrum of our relations. We exchanged views in a spirit of warmth and friendship," he said.

The relationship and engagement between India and EU in different areas has expanded over the years and would expand further as the EU evolves, Krishna said.

Keeping in mind the important roles India and EU play in the international arena, views were also exchanged on various regional and global issues of common interest, he said.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Brussels for the India-EU Summit in December, 2010, has strengthened the strategic partnership between India and EU.

In the past one year, India and the EU have intensified dialogue on various aspects of the relationship, he said, adding, "We look forward to the visit of the leadership of the EU to India for the next India-EU Summit, scheduled to be held shortly in Delhi."

Krishna said India and EU have prepared to take the cooperation forward in the India-EU Summit meeting. "The two sides also took this opportunity to review the progress in the implementation of the Joint Action Plan, which remains the guiding force of our relations," he said.

India and EU share common values of freedom, democracy and rule of law, he said, adding that EU is India's largest trading partner and a significant source of investment and technology flow, he said.
